December 2021- What I've Been Into This Month

Hello, all! This has been a bit of a month for me- I've had so much gone on: some changes in life (ie: family moving), doing holiday baking by myself (mostly by myself), and just doing too much sometimes (ie to-do lists). I just hate when I feel this way but this month ended better than it started- just to clarify- not everyday has been bad- it's just a 50/50 mix of good days & bad days. It's completely okay to feel a lot- this holiday season can typically be a lot for people. And that's okay! No judgments here! With all of that being said, let's get into what I've been loving this month.

Also, how is 2022 this week? What? So weird!

Now for real, let's dive in.

Favorite Song This Month:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDza6TCO-RA

"Damn It Feels Good To Be Me" by Andy Grammer- such a fun, upbeat, sassy tune! Love it so!

Coffee Drink:

Vanilla Cardamom- Iced w/ Oat Milk or Cold Foam Cold Brew from The Lobby Coffee Bar in Huntingtown, MD- they describe the drink: French vanilla syrup with aromatic cardamom bitters- it's been one of my fave coffee drinks this month- highly recommend and it's not too terribly sweet for someone like me that hates sweet coffee drinks.

Herbal Tea:

Allegro Herbal Tea Peaceful Slumber Tea- this mix is a wonderful way to end the day with- it's eerily similar (ingredient wise) to the Pukka Nighttime Tea (which is an another one of my favorite teas too). Highly recommend for those that want to cozy up with a tea that makes you sleep!

Highlights from this month:
  • Visiting family in Virginia- got takeout one night (another night my uncle made venison- which I was iffy about- and steak- which I liked better anyways), found a fun gift exchange while I was up there too, watched Christmas movies (watched "The Holiday" & "Charlie Brown Christmas"- one of them I've seen, the other I haven't), played games, and went to church that Sunday I visited then grabbed lunch & shopped a bit in Target. The simple things are the best!
  • Christmas Day At Home- we had plans to go away but it ended up changing and I couldn't been more happier to stay home for Christmas. We opened gifts & stockings (I received an absurd amount of gifts & stocking stuffers- some of them are bath products- I see bubble baths more in my future). Had spaghetti over meatballs & sauce with salad & bread as our Christmas dinner. The best part of the whole thing is not having to rush to go up to where we were supposed to be going. Not overwhelming ourselves too much and strangely felt more relaxed being at home for Christmas too. Even finished up a gingerbread row house (a set found at Target)- came out so good!

As I mentioned, I've had a bit of an overwhelming month and I know this is just a season, it isn't permanent. It'll come and go. Here's to hoping for a fun 2022! I do hope you all enjoyed reading these favorites posts as much as I had typing them up each month! Enjoy your day!

Sending lots of love & light,

Lauren

November 2021 Favorites: It's The Most Basic Seasonal Post You'll Ever Read

Hello, it's time again for me to share what I've been into for this month. How is it already November? Next month it's Christmas- ahhh!!! Anyways, read on to what I've been into for the month (which happened to be my sister and I's birthday month).

Favorite Songs:

"Raspberry" by Grouplove- such a fun alternative tune!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mldevqBA4HM

"Beautiful Life" by Cobra Starship- yes it's one of the bands I listened to in high school and I discovered the song when it came out and it was making me feel so nostalgic- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjl5t1vUabs

Favorite New Herbal Tea:

Yogi brand has done it again! This is a such a lovely combo of peppermint and vanilla- so soothing! Enjoyed it so- definitely give it a try if you love peppermint and vanilla or just love trying new teas.

Favorite Coffee for At-Home Cold Brew:
Discovered this coffee when I was doing a grocery store run this month and I did try it hot I found the flavors weren't as pronounced when you brewed it hot. So I made into cold brew and I found the flavors were there more than when it is brewed hot. I highly recommend this coffee to anyone who wants to try this as a cold brew to make at home. The flavor in cold brew has such nice chocolate notes- it was pleasant! The brand is Common Voice and the flavor is Canopy (dark roast)- good for trying something different and it has smoky, caramel, and dark chocolate notes.

Favorite Hand Lotion:

(Couldn't for the life of me find a picture- pretend it's here)

Beloved from Love, Beauty, and Planet has a whole range of scents and I came across this wonderful scent of roasted chestnut and ginger. I picked it up and it was such a soft scent- definitely recommend for the colder months for those with drier hands.

Favorite Starbucks Coffee Order:

Normally, I'm a sucker for going to get coffee at local places (ie The Lobby in Huntingtown, MD) but Starbucks has this drink that I've grown to love more this month- an iced grande shaken espresso with light ice and oat-milk and no classic syrup. It's so good without the syrup and you can the taste the espresso. Highly recommend if you need a new drink to pep your step up!

A couple highlights from the month:
  • My sister getting a full term substitute teacher position at my Aunt's elementary school in Virginia- I'm a proud sister!
  • My 29th birthday (on the last end of my 20s)- my grandparents dropped by, had a soup flight (a trio of soups- minestrone, chicken noodle, and roasted tomato soup) alongside bread & salad, received a nice amount of presents (a new purse was one), and had vegan marble cupcakes with chocolate vegan buttercream (delish!). Simple day with those I love most!
This was a month full of surprises but that was all for this month! Hope you enjoyed reading!

Sending tons of love and light,

Lauren

October 2021: It's The Spookiest Time For a Monthly Favorites Post!

How is this year almost gone? It makes no sense! Anyways, it's time for me to share what I've been into for this month- it's been a mixed review kinda month for me but nonetheless it's been good. With all of that being said, let's get to what I've been into!

Favorite New Herbal Tea:

I picked this up randomly at the store thinking I wasn't going to like it. Over time, I began to really like it- the taste reminds me of flavors if you were having this tea iced. I found when I had this I slept like a baby- thank you, melatonin for that! As usual, I sweeten this with honey and if you are a fan of more herbal-y based teas, you'll like this one. I sure did!

Favorite Limited Edition Ground Coffee:

Apricity from The Lobby in Huntingtown, MD
-I cannot say enough how good of a coffee this is! I love the fact it has sumatra in it (that is one of my favorite things about it). Great as hot coffee, iced coffee or cold brew! Get this while you can- it's so worth it! Love me some local coffee!

Favorite New Music This Month:

"Astrovan" by Mt.Joy- such a fun, laid-back indie tune- give it a whirl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etrjS8dYeFc

"The Adventure" by Angels & Airwaves: randomly found this tune in one of my Spotify playlists and ended up loving it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMl8cQjBfqk

"Move" by Rob Thomas ft. Santana & American Authors- get ready to dance with this tune- enjoy with caution (in a good way obviously): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy2O_rmNj2k

Favorite Face Wash:
This cleanser- is new to me- and love the fact it has rose quartz in it (rose quartz is one of my favorite crystals). It deep cleans the skin wonderfully and I love the fresh feeling it gives my skin after you have rinsed it off of your face. Grab it!

Favorite New Face Mask:
I received this mask in my Fall Walmart Beauty Box and it's a life-saver on my skin. Wonderful with those with oily skin and acne-prone skin. Has the charcoal in it which is great for the skin- grab this mask- it's so worth it! Can't say enough about how good it is!

Well, that's everything for this month's post- glad you stopped by to read it! Tune in for next month's post and it also happens to be my birthday month- looking forward to turning another age!

Sending lots of love & light your way,

Lauren

September 2021 Monthly Favorites: What Have I Been Liking/Loving Lately?

How is it the end of September already? I felt like this month just started. Anyways, this month has had a theme- getting out of my comfort zone. It's scary to do but always worth it sometimes. So with all that being said, I'm going to share my favorite things from the month!

Favorite Ground Coffee (Seasonal):

When this coffee is available for the Fall season, I immediately run to the store to grab it; it's one of my true favorites. I find this coffee smooth and perfect- great to make as at home cold-brew coffee, too (I use 2 cups filtered water to 1/2 cup of ground coffee- add in any additional spices if you want- let it set overnight and rinse and strain through a small colander- have a bowl underneath when straining- and transfer to a to-go cup or a favorite mug and add in milk or cream and sugar if you choose to use it). Pick this up before the Fall season ends!

Favorite Fall Coffee Drink:

This drink I've had over the course of the month and loved it ever since it made it's debut. I live in Maryland and the drink is from a local place called The Lobby (outside of Chesapeake Church in Huntingtown, MD). Highly recommend the place if you want to try a new spot for coffee, tea, or whatever else you fancy (had to shout them out because they are awesome!) Anyways, the drink is called Fall Spice cold brew coffee- they mix pure pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, cardamom, black pepper, and brown sugar and add in ice and cold brew coffee and your choice of milk (I usually do oat milk). The taste is impeccable- reminds me of pumpkin pie! Try it before the Fall season is over- you won't regret it!

Favorite Highlight from this month:

Visiting my Aunt of who lives in Virginia and I was ecstatic to see her and all of my other extended family members and cousins'. I hadn't see a lot of them in a hot minute so seeing them was so worth it. We went up (my mom and I) for my cousin's 4th birthday (her mom of who is my cousin and my aunt & uncle bought a house most recently up in Virginia as well)- rainbow themed (see 2nd picture) and it ended up being a nice party- rainbow cake and all! We had outdoor movie nights at my Aunt's house and just spent quality time there. I was a bit anxious / overwhelmed before going but it eased it tremendously. It was a nice short trip!

Favorite Songs:

"THNKS FR TH MMRS (Fall Out Boy Cover)" by The Maine- I heard this song and it was so beautifully done I was in such shock- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrVk4T9nDzc

"Record Player" ft. AJR by Daisy the Great: random find and I ended up loving it- such a gem!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyuIHyOBFsU

"West Coast (Lana Del Rey Cover)" by MISSIO: another cover that was breathtaking to listen to (I don't use that statement very often)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mkqdzW2PUw

"wanna be" by jxdn ft. Machine Gun Kelly- fun tune all around- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8M5RTuh_bs

Favorite Quote / Bible Verse:

I kept seeing this verse pop up a bit this month! I think it was truly speaking to me on a deeper level- God knows His word and this was one of His that he gave to me this month.

Favorite Spotify Playlists:

"Pumpkin Spice"- the coziest blend of Fall music that is pure enjoyment to listen to (will link this playlist soon)- look up Pumpkin Spice on Spotify and I'm sure you will find it.

"Get Chores Done"- I was doing a bit of cleaning this month and I popped this on and it was a nice mix of throwbacks and other tunes I loved (will link this playlist soon)- look up Get Chores Done on Spotify and I'm sure you will find it.

Well, that's all I've got for this month- hope you all are enjoying the Fall season and staying cozy! Looking forward to what next month has to offer! Thanks for reading!

Sending lots of love & light,
Lauren

August 2021 Monthly Favorites: What I've Been Into This Month

Hey, everyone! Today it is time to share what I've been into for the month of August. This month in general was a bit all over the place- but I managed to even take a break from social media in this month, too. I've been needing to take one (it's been a minute since I've taken one) anyways.

Let's get into what I've been into:

Favorite New Ground Coffee:

I've been a fan of this brand for their cold brew coffees and I saw this when I went out to the grocery store one day. I really liked the name of it (strangely) and it was such a smooth, well-balanced coffee. And the fact it was organic is such a plus, too. Grab this bag the next time you're out (if you drink coffee that is).

Favorite On-The-Go Coffee:

Normally, I don't gravitate towards the pre-made dairy free canned coffee drinks (I'm a bit annoyed at the sugars in it) but one weekend I was at Trader Joe's and I needed a coffee to drink (since I was with my mom and we didn't plan to stop to get coffee). I saw this one and the cashier that checked my groceries out said from a friend of his it was really good. I took a chance and grabbed two of these. I loved this- the sweetness is definitely there for me- not a huge fan of sweet things in general. It was worth trying- if you're traveling somewhere and like coffee, definitely pick this up- only thing I would do is pour some of this over plain cold brew coffee (because the drink is naturally sweet for me- so you wouldn't even need to add any sweetener- if you use it in it). They make a vanilla oat-milk and a caramel one in this (haven't tried the others but hey may have to).

Favorite Herbal Tea:

I had tried this once before and I forgot how relaxed it made me feel before I felt asleep- it has a mix of oat-flower, lavender and lime-flower. It is such a nice tea before you go to bed at night. Add this to your tea arsenal (you'll thank me later!)- I just add honey to this and I find it doesn't even overpower it at all.

Favorite New Music:

"PMA (Post Modern Anxiety)" by All Time Low ft. Pale Waves- such a fun track about a really relatable topic in the world (anxiety)- the subject isn't always the easiest to talk about but by opening up it makes a little easier and not uncomfortable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUoz6HaFg88

"I Wanna Be Your High" by Chad Tepper ft. DREAMERS- such a fun track to dance and get silly to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb4lh-SyY94

"Cloudy Days" by Tones and I- a feel good track with feel good vibes I strangely dig:

Hope you enjoyed reading this post- maybe you found something new to try from this! Lemme know if you do- see for next month! Ready for Fall- so over the summertime heat!

Sending lots of love and light,

Lauren

July 2021 Monthly Favorites: What Have I Been Into This Month?

Hello, humans! It is time again for me to share what I've been into for this month- surprisingly this month in general has been a bit kinder to me (which is always nice- had a few funky days but surpassed them thankfully). I've got some fun things to share with you; so I hope you like this post!

Favorite Candle:

This candle from the Project 62 brand at Target is heavenly! I saw it in a email from an app I use called Shine (which I highly recommend) and it was one of the featured favorites from one of the staff members and I was like, 'I have to have this candle'. Long story short, I ordered it from Target and the design is very simple and minimal and they come in a ton of different scents. Lavender Eucalyptus smells nice and it isn't too strong for me (not a huge fan of strong scents). Under $15 if you're looking for a good candle (not sponsored- just love me some Target!)

Favorite Songs:

This is a highly addictive song- just warning- Happy Endings by Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park ft. Iann Dior + UPSHAL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vit9ZYPl-cs

Such a fun, rock N roll tune- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak_zGEhRlzE- "Love Race" by Machine Gun Kelly ft. Kellin Quinn

Favorite New Skincare Item:

I've been wanting to minimize the amount of skincare products I used and I feel sometimes we just have a wide array of things we don't use. Anyways, I wanted something that exfoliated and cleansed my face and I found this at Target. It's specifically meant for oily skin + sensitive skin (they do make other variants depending on what your skin type is) and this has been a lifesaver in my skincare routine. Love it (under $10- found at Target- not sponsored- love me some Target though).

Favorite New Herbal Tea:

I love me a good cup of tea before bed but sometimes when I overindulge or overeat- mint tea is such a lifesaver. I found this at Target one day and I just love having this before bed sometimes and it's refreshing (I like some honey added to this too). If you need a new mint tea, this is might become your new fave (one negative- the contents will spill out sometimes but hey it happens).

Favorite New Body Wash (to me that is):

This was gifted to me from my lovely mom and I just fell in love with how subtly scented it is and it exfoliates! Yes! Love! Definitely recommend if you like 2-in-1 products and the fact it is from a brand I would use all the time is nice (I used to love their apricot face scrub!).

Fave New Fun Nail Polish:

I normally don't love very bright colors but I got this one (Spice it up by Essie) featured in my Summer beauty box from Walmart and I put it on wasn't sure if I liked it but overtime I grew to really like it. The name is a nice touch too (if you want to get it it's at Walmart for $9 dollars- not sponsored- just wanted to share the love).

Favorite New Playlist via Spotify it's called Wanderlust- such a nice mix of tunes- take a listen and enjoy!- http://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWWpO97CaFM3p?si=270755c1a93c43fe

Well that's everything I've been into for this month- I just share these posts for fun and maybe in return it may open up your eyes to trying something new! You never know what may happen! See you for August's post soon!

Sending lots of love + light,

Lauren

June 2021 Monthly Faves Post: What Were The Things I've Been Loving This Month?

How it is June already?- this month flew by like an airplane in the sky; anyways, I'm going to share what were some things I was into for this month. June was a bit much for me this month and having these things I'm going to list down below made days easier and better when I had the harder days (still helped on my good days too). Let's get into the post!

Favorite Recipes I've Been Making:

Both of these recipes are my own you won't find them anywhere but on this post-

Almond Butter Banana Smoothie:

1/2 to 1 cup oat milk

1-2 tbsp. ground flaxseed

pinch of cinnamon

ice

1/2 banana (use frozen if needed then you have to add in the ice) or if allergic to bananas, 2 dates soaked in hot water for 5-10 minutes (not a fan of any dried fruit which is why I choose not to use it- the soaked dates make it easier to blend in your blender / food processor and also have just about the same amount of potassium as bananas do- will give it a "caramel" like taste if that's something you are into)

1 Ashwagandha Capsule or 1/4 tsp. of the powder *this adaptogenic herb I listed is great for relieving stress + anxiety- one that is usually in my arsenal of supplements

1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of rolled oats

2 tbsp. almond butter (or if allergic to nuts / tree-nuts, sub for your personal preference of a nut-free / tree-nut free spread)

-Blend all the ingredients into a blender / food processor and enjoy!

Iced Espresso

Brewed Espresso or Instant Espresso (however you measure this is to your liking- make more if you want stronger, make less if you don't want it as strong)

Handful of Ice

1/4 to 1/2 cup Milk of Choice

Cinnamon + Nutmeg (totally optional- but this is what I like)

Sweetener of Choice (Coconut sugar I use in my coffee as opposed to regular white sugar)

-Brew your espresso however you choose to brew it; I brew mine on an 8 oz. cup setting and it makes one shot (which is plenty for me but do more if you want more).

-While the espresso brews, froth your milk of choice with the additional spices; add to your glass with ice; now add your espresso (this will cool the coffee as you pour it in). Add in your choice of sweetener and mix altogether and enjoy!

Favorite Music I've Been Into:

Karma by MOD SUN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIu7D0HmpNc

Sticky by The Maine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJgJXCs0pkE

For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic by Paramore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1o2UCLvD38

Favorite Meditation Practice:

Headspace YouTube Channel- A Meditation to Reset- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHkXvPq2pQE&list=PL1Z2GRzrIhnavi_TjwhKhj_gohB-RtUwV&index=5

Favorite Facial Mist:

St Ives Lavender Facial Mist- http://www.target.com/p/st-ives-hydrating-face-mist-lavender-4-23-fl-oz/-/A-75662915#lnk=sametab

-Spraying this on after a shower has been so nice on my skin and the scent is lovely (they make a grapefruit and orange one of these mists if lavender isn't your jam).

Favorite New Body Wash:

-This has been such a nice scent to use when I take my showers at night and the scent isn't too overpowering and it lathers up real well- I also, like the diffuser, found this at Marshall's if you want to find it for yourself.

Favorite New Diffuser / Humidifier:

Pure Enrichment essential oil diffuser / humidifier has been my new favorite thing in my wellness aspect of life- I found it at Marshall's originally which is where I got this one from and my old diffuser ended up not working and I had it for 4 years max and it was a sign to get a new one. I only have to refill it 1-2x a day and it comes with a measuring cup to do the exact amount of water the diffuser / humidifier needs. It's been awesome!

Well, that's all for this month- hope you enjoyed- see you next month!

Sending lots of love, light + peace your way,

Lauren

May 2021 Favorites: What Have I Been Into This Month?

Hey, all! It's time for me to share what I've been into for this month. This month has been a little kinder to me which isn't a bad thing to think about. So without further ado, I'll share my favorite things.

Favorite New Ground Coffee:

This was one of my new favorites- it's so light and crisp and perfect for the morning time. Breakfast Blend happens to be one of my favorite type of ground coffee because of the "lightness" it has (if this statement may any sense...).

Favorite New Tea:

E-Commerce Front

I was trying to find something that was meant for bed but had the added digestive benefits of mint tea and whaddya know, I find this one! It's soothing and calming before bed- loved it this month.

Favorite quote / reminder from this month:

I had planned on getting a shirt from To write love on her arms with this design on it and it ended up being ridiculously expensive! But in the end, these words were worth more than a shirt was. It's a reminder / quote I hope to take beyond this month (it's Mental health awareness month in case you didn't know).

Favorite Music:

I cannot go without listening to music (if anyone that knows me, I've got music on almost all the time)- I'll share a few faves (plus an album I was late to the party on):

"Cover Me in Sunshine" by Pink ft. her daughter Willow:

Machine Gun Kelly's album Tickets to my Downfall (like I said above, late to the party- how did I forget this album last year when it came out- one key track I've been liking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSdT-SArM2Q

"I Don't Miss You At All" by FINNEAS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C62ApusprBA

That's everything I've been enjoying this month! Hope you enjoyed reading this post!

Sending lots of love & light,

Lauren

April 2021 Favorites: What Were The Things I Loved This Month?

Is it already April? Man, this year is flying by! I felt like we just started off this year! But anyways I'm going to share with you all what have been my favorite things for this month.

Favorite New Skincare Item:

This face wash has my skin feeling so good! I was dealing with a big breakout at the beginning of this month (part of it was hormonal) and over continued use, my skin began clearing up (I don't have acne-prone skin but I find it helps with breakouts when they do appear on the face) and when I would get the occasional breakouts, they would help still clear it up, too.

Favorite New Barista Blend for Coffee:

E-Commerce Left

Out of anything I've tried before to froth my coffee, this is one of the few I've found that has frothed really well. Impressive product!

Favorite New Candle:

This candle is such a soft, light scent and it's been a perfect accompanyment to my room when I light it up. Such a fun find from Walmart (not sponsored- just randomly found it and bought it myself).

Favorite New App:

I don't have an exact pic of the new app curated by To write love on her arms but this was one of the quotes featured in the app as soon as you opened it. For people struggling with mental health and the fact there is an app called The Hopeful curated by To write love on her arms, is good because there needs to be more apps like this (I don't feel there is enough). I check in every morning to see how I'm feeling and answer the daily question they offer in the app (this app is free!). It's been nice using it this month.

Favorite New Body Wash & Lotion:

Cactus Blossom Shower Gel

This scent from Bath and Body works smells so fresh and light! Been loving it (along with the body cream- not pictured).

Favorite Yoga Video I've Done This Month:
Revolution Day 2- Practice Intention via Yoga with Adriene on YouTube (this practice forces you to slooow down which isn't easy if you aren't used to it but this was a good practice).

Favorite New Coffee from a local coffee shop:
Spritzy Americano from The Lobby Coffee Bar in Huntingtown, MD (out of anything I've tried in life, this was by far a delicious drink- I don't normally drink my coffee black but this was worth trying- they describe this drink as- their words not mine-  a spritzy twist on our classic Americano with sparkling mineral water and a touch of lavender, lemon and elderberry).

Well, that's all the things I've been loving this month- I hope you've been enjoying these posts as much as I've been. See you for... wait for it... it's gonna... it's gonna be MAY! (you know I had to do it).

Sending you lots of love, light & happiness,

-Lauren-

March 2021 Favorites: What Have I Been Enjoying?

Happy Spring! This season screams freshness and renewal (plus Easter too!). Anyways, I'm going to share what I've been enjoying this month. This month was rather unpredictable sometimes but I learned each day to go with the flow (which isn't a bad thing at all!).

Favorite New At Home Coffee Recipe I've Tried:

Chagaccino Almond Milk Shaken Iced Espresso via @whatrobineats on Instagram. I loved how good and smooth this tasted. I opted for the oat milk (since that's all I had) instead of the almond milk in the original recipe (plus didn't have the vanilla flavored collagen powder like in the original recipe- this gives it more of a frothy texture). Enjoyed this so!

The @whatrobineats original recipe is:
2 shots brewed espresso
1 tbsp. cacao powder
1 Four Sigmatic Chaga Elixir Packet (great for immunity!)
1/3 cup almond milk
1 scoop vanilla flavored collagen powder (she uses the Ancient Nutrition Brand I believe)
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

her page here (she is someone to follow if you use Instagram- enjoy her content so!): http://www.instagram.com/whatrobineats/

Favorite Music:

"Once In a Lifetime" by All Time Low

"Be Kind" by Zak Abel:

Favorite New Sleep Mask:

EcoTools Sleep Mask - image 1 of 5
This is worth it! I don't like going to bed without this on my face- the satiny material feels luxe and I love the fact this brand doesn't use any excess plastic in their packaging. Very good price and I highly recommend it (bought it from Target). Had been needing a new sleep mask and this was the best reviewed one on Target (the tropical inspired design isn't my cup of tea but it works somewhat).

Favorite Additions to Coffee: Ground Cinnamon & Nutmeg (how did I miss out on this?)

Favorite New Drink (non-caffeinated): Spindrift Sparkling Waters (Lemon & Orange Mango)- such good flavors!

Spindrift Sparkling Water Lemon -8pk/12 fl oz Cans - image 1 of 6
Well, that's all for this month- tune in for next month's post! Plus, get out and go play! Life is too short to hibernate sometimes!

Sending lots of love & light,

Lauren

February 2021 Favorites: What I've Been Liking This Month

It's that time of where I share what I've been into for this month; February was an interesting month to say in the least. If you read my last post, then you know why. But if you didn't know, this was the month of where I tried to kill myself (5 years ago on the 13th of February) when I was still reeling from a bad breakup. It was a lot to take in that day, too. I'm thankful to still be living and given a second chance at life. It was like a sign from the Universe that day. Thank you, Universe. Anyways, here's what I've been into this month.

Favorite New Skincare Treatment:

Simple Kind To Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask w Calamine 3.38 oz

This was a new find I found while out and about one afternoon; since then, I've grown to enjoy it. I find this so soothing on my skin (I do deal with sensitive skin which is a drag but my skin likes it). It's meant for more oily skin types. Definitely enjoyed this month.

Go-To Coffee Order I enjoyed this month:

Oat Milk Americano- delish!

New product I've been enjoying to froth my coffee with:

 Oat Barista Blend Image

This stuff froths so well for that morning or afternoon cup! Highly recommend (also side note, I've been having a hard time finding Oatly's barista blend and this seemed to do the trick well just like the Oatly one- plus if gums / stabilizers bother your belly- this one from Califia Farms doesn't contain it at all).

Favorite new ground coffee:

Starbucks Spring Day Blend Medium Roast Ground Coffee - 10oz - image 1 of 7

This was a new find I found at Target this month; it was one of the two new coffees from Starbucks (the other is Honey Madagscar Vanilla- haven't tried this yet) and this was an incredibly smooth coffee. Definitely was worth trying!

Some highlights from this month:

  • Going to visit my grandparents for the first time since Christmas last year (plus getting to see my sister isn't a bad thing either).
  • Getting my first round of the COVID-19 vaccine (was super nervous but felt good doing my part to help save lives).
  • Valentine's Day this year- normally the day isn't my jam- but having a nice day in and enjoyed spending time with those I love most.
  • Getting Discovery+ (my mom recieved it as a Valentine's Day gift from my dad) and enjoying the programs the streaming service offers.
  • Super Bowl Sunday this month was nice- made a great vegan 6 layer dip from The Kind Diet book and watched the fun ads and enjoyed seeing The Weeknd perform (he usually isn't my style of music but it was fun to see).
Well, that was all for this month- hope you enjoyed reading it! See you in March!

Sending lots of love & light,

Lauren

Something I've Not Shared With All of You...

I wasn't sure how I was going to begin this post with the subject being a little heavy for some. It's the 5 year anniversary of a traumatic day in my life (next week on February 13th, 2021 is the 5 year anniversary date) and I wanted to share how & why it happened and how I am feeling now (plus some self-reflection, too).

These are the words I wrote on February 13th, 2016:

"The unthinkable comes out of me and I was talking to my ex and I kept begging him for another chance and I went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife and took it with me to my room and said my last prayers and  held the knife to my chest as I was still crying. My parents were concerned and gave me a long pep talk about everything. I almost gave up on life."

I am thankful that I didn't end my life that day otherwise I wouldn't be talking to you. I didn't know what was going on in my mind at the moment and the fact I saw the light in lieu of the darkness. I'm just thankful I had my parents there that day. I no longer talk to the person I reference in the post from 2016. I had cut him off indefinitely out of my life. He was a person that ruined me mentally and physically and emotionally (my anxiety got way more heightened around that time period). I just have been afraid of going down that same road again so I've just been enjoying my own company in the meantime. I remember telling my then-therapist what had happened and I was afraid to tell her but I did. Holding things in isn't healthy, and I knew if I kept it in I would regret it immensely. I felt better after that appointment that next day.

But I want you to know something, this reader, because you are someone that is worthy of everything in this world. Don't let someone dictate how you feel at all. I let someone do that to me it almost ended my life. I didn't want to end my life because I had so much to look forward to in those next years of my life. I knew life was worth living again. I wanted to tell myself that constantly (even if my anxiety flared up some). Because sometimes we get things thrown at us in life and we think we handle it, but sometimes we can't, and sometimes we can. We just have to reframe those negative thoughts into positive ones. It's not as easy as it seems but it works. I find journaling really helpful with getting those thoughts out of me.

As I'm typing this, a band I remember seeing my 10th grade year of high school- We the Kings- released a new song today called The Light and it deeply spoke to me. And the one of the lyrics referenced coming into the light from the darkness. When was this song when I needed it most? I'll link the post of the song if you wanted to listen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8QKJufu8CM. It's a great tune if you want something comforting ❤️.

So, here are a couple quotes that I love- to ease the healing from that day some:

I wasn't sure how was going to begin this post because I know this subject matter is heavy for some. It can be a lot to take in and I'm thankful I'm alive, healthy, and still existing in this world. Because I felt like I gained a second life since that day happened. I had great times in my life beyond that day happening. I am just thankful to exist in this life; I truly am.

Take the time today to appreciate what life is; spend time with those that you love most and know you are worthy of so much more than you think. Also, most importantly take the time to nurture your soul with things that make you happy. See you all in a future post!

Sending you lots of love + light,

Lauren

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things. Whatever you have learned or recieved or heard from me, or seen in me- put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."- Philippians 4:6-9 (NIV)

January 2021 Monthly Favorites: TV, Music, Highlights, etc.

Normally this would be the time I'd do a monthly check-in but for this year (hoping for a better and calmer and peaceful year but who knows at this point?). I'm switching it up and sharing things that I've been loving this month. I'm hoping to make this a monthly thing for you all to read. Anyways, let's get into the post!

Favorite TV show I've been enjoying this month:

This show is something I normally wouldn't watch (just super out of my comfort zone) but I'm giving it a go round this season and so far I've been enjoying it (anything so far with the fashion element I love; well maybe the music element too).

Favorite songs I've been enjoying this month:

"No Time" by The Guess Who
"Flames" by Avril Lavigne ft. MOD SUN
"cheers" by Blackbear ft. Wiz Khalifa

Favorite big highlights this month:
"Breathe" 30 Days of Yoga via Yoga with Adriene on YouTube (most of the month)
Seeing snow for the first time this month (very comforting to watch)

Favorite book this month:

When I found out one of my favorite YouTuber's was making a book, I about lost my mind. She was someone that was a part of my journey right around the time of my 2015/2016 breakup. Her videos were essentially therapy and I would watch only her main channel videos and second channel vlogs. She was the main reason I read my bible front to back and used the Holy Bible app. I made recipes from any of her food videos and were delish (also she was the main reason I began listening to Switchfoot more often and they are great to listen to when you just need an upbeat tune or something comforting on a rough day). Anyways, I read this book "Growing Strong" front to back and loved it; her philosophies and takes (and may I add, delish recipes) on things were great. I had found a particular section in the book referring to a section in the book of Acts 16- verses 25-28 and it references Paul and Silas being chained in prison for a crime they didn't do and at the time of my breakup it felt like I was chained to a place that wasn't making me happy. Once the chains broke in the same section I referenced it felt like I was free from that unhappy place. I loved that feeling of freedom. I felt renewed and happy over time. I highly recommend this book as a source of encouragment, joy (no pun intended) and as a mindful guide for your overall health + well-being.

Favorite Coffee (ground): La Colombe Rwanda Early Riser (such a smooth coffee and very subtle on flavor- which is nice if you don't care for a more subtle flavor)
Rwanda Early Riser

Favorite go-to coffee shop drink this month: Anything iced with oat milk or almond milk (plus an extra shot & added cinnamon & coconut sugar)

Favorite Meals I've made this month:

The Immunity Boosting Chicken Soup from my "Growing Strong"; plus another soup (was anyone sensing a theme yet? no? just me; okay)- from chef Michael D. Symon via Facebook- a hearty veggie chickpea soup (both of these soups I made has massively good flavor!)

Well, that's everything for this month! The favorites may vary month to month but I thought I would share what I've been loving! Hope you enjoy these posts and let me know if you end up liking it!

Sending lots of love + light,

Lauren
